BELIZE DISTRICT

The Belize district, some areas of which had been evacuated yesterday, was left unscathed in the wake of the hurricane. As it became apparent that the district was not in Iris’s path, some evacuees from the outer cayes, took shelter in the hotels. On Tuesday night there were reports of a little rain and high tides.

By daybreak Tuesday, however, everything had started to return to normal. Hotels in Belize City are fully functional. All highways are accessible with no reports of flooding. The International Airport is operating as normal. Hotels are reporting a return to normal occupancy and are ready to take your booking.

Spanish Caye, located 10 miles East-South East of Belize, states that their cabañas, which were constructed over the sea, received no structural damages.

Rural areas of the district report that the rivers, that rose immediately following the passing of the storm, have now leveled off and are expected to recede within the next few days.
