The Belize Tourism Board reports that hurricane Iris moved over the southern region of the country in the early evening of October 8th.
While Hurricane Iris was a powerful storm, hurricane force winds were limited to a 15 mile radius. Initial reports indicate that areas above Independence village in the south were spared storm damage. Iris' force was mainly felt along Belize's southern coast and officials are currently assessing the damage to property in these areas.
You are reminded also that since much of Belize was unaffected by Hurricane Iris, most tourism service providers are open to accommodate you in whatever way they can.
