AMBERGRIS CAYE

Hurricane Iris never became more than an inconvenient event in Ambergris Caye. Unable to project exactly where Iris would fall within the next 48 hours, all San Pedranos prepared for the hurricane by securing their buildings and heading inland for safety.

On October 9th, San Pedranos are returning to the island and reopening their businesses. They felt little more than moderate rain and choppy seas. No personal injuries or property damage have been reported. Businesses, resorts, and tour operators are fully operational.

Banana Beach on Southern Ambergris reports that several guests are scheduled to arrive this evening. Sunbreeze Hotel in San Pedro Town and Captain Morgan's Retreat on Northern Ambergris report that some debris was washed ashore and nothing else is out of the ordinary. So come on down! Ambergris Caye continues to offer the same great beach, bright sunshine, fishing, diving, snorkeling, kayaking and laid back lifestyle.

The following resorts have contributed to the above report:

Sundiver Resort - 10/17/2001
We would like to take this opportunity to offer our wishes of a speedy recovery from Iris. We would also like to offer accommodations at our resort to those guests who are unable to reschedule there holiday. We would also like to do this at a discounted rate to your hotel. We understand how difficult it is to turn people away and how hard it is financially to be refunding money received for reservations at time when you need it the most. sundiver@btl.net

Caribbean Villas Hotel - 10/13/2001
We are in the safe zone. No damage to Caribbean Villas Hotel or grounds. Everything looks as beautiful. We are ready for guests immediately. Same with the entire town, no damage. c-v-hotel@btl.net

Captain Morgan's Retreat - 10/10/2001
Everything is fantastic! We are open for business, and have guests on the property. belizevacation@yahoo.com
