DANGRIGA, HOPKINS, SITTEE RIVER
The arrival of Hurricane Iris to southern Belize caused some evacuation of our Culture Capital 'Dangriga.' as well as the coastal village of Hopkins. HOWEVER, the storm passed further south and there was no damage. All roads leading to Dangriga, Hopkins and Sittee River are accessible, flights are back on schedule, resorts are fully operational and look forward to your visit. Sittee River Village was not affected by the storm and It is understood that, apart from the loss of a few docks, Hopkins was spared any serious damage.
SOUTH WATER CAYE, TOBACCO CAYE
Reports state that there were high tides across the islands which left debris and minor damage to docks, however they should be operational by week's end.

SITTEE RIVER
Second Nature Divers - 10/15/2001
REEF REPORT
The fast moving nature of Hurricane Iris seems to have saved the South Water Caye Marine Reserve from major damage. Most of the hard corals, gorgonians and sponges seem to have survived the storm well, and only a few coral heads seem to have been overturned or dislodged. This is mainly in the shallower, high surge areas of the reef, as would be expected.

Second Nature Divers boats and facilities are fully operational and are diving the Barrier Reef, Glovers Atoll and Turneffe Islands from Hopkins, Sittee and the cayes offshore.
